New drug shows promise in taming dangerous blood fats

Summary

This study tested whether an experimental drug called plozasiran (ARO-APOC3) could safely and effectively lower unhealthy levels of fats and cholesterol in the blood, a condition called mixed dyslipidemia. Over 350 adults already on standard cholesterol medication were randomly assigned to receive either the drug or a placebo for 48 weeks while following a recommended diet. The main goal was to see how much the drug reduced a specific type of fat (triglycerides) after 24 weeks and to monitor safety throughout the study.
