Scientists test if 5-Day-Old treated platelets still work in the body

NCT ID NCT06697223

Summary

This study tested a new method for preparing and storing platelets, a blood component vital for clotting, to see if they survive and function well in the body after 5 days. Researchers collected platelets from 40 healthy volunteers, treated them with a special system, stored them, and then put a tiny, safe radioactive tag on them to track their movement after being returned to the donor. The goal was to see if these stored, treated platelets lasted as long as fresh ones, which could help make platelet transfusions safer and more available.
