Blood clot bandage boosts jaw healing in Drug-Related bone disease

NCT ID NCT07464678

First seen Mar 13, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study tested whether adding platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) — a concentrate made from a patient's own blood — to standard surgery improves healing of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). MRONJ is a painful condition where the jawbone becomes exposed and fails to heal, often caused by drugs used for osteoporosis or cancer. Twenty-two adults were randomly assigned to receive either surgery alone or surgery plus PRF. The main goal was to see if PRF leads to better wound closure and fewer complications over six months.
