Microplastics found in brain clots – could they worsen stroke outcomes?

NCT ID NCT07580326

First seen May 12, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study examines whether tiny plastic particles (micro- and nanoplastics) are present in brain clots removed during surgery after a hemorrhagic stroke. Researchers will analyze these clots and blood samples from 150 patients to see if the plastics are linked to more inflammation or worse recovery over 12 months. No new treatments are tested; the goal is to understand how environmental pollutants might affect brain health.
