Plasma swap shows promise for sepsis safety
NCT ID NCT04057872
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This early-stage study tested whether a procedure called therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) is safe for adults with septic shock, a life-threatening infection. Seventeen participants received TPE within 24 hours of diagnosis. The main goal was to check for side effects and see if patients could complete the treatment. This was a small safety trial, not a test of whether TPE cures sepsis.
