Double transplant strategy tested against rare, deadly leukemia

NCT ID NCT02858999

Summary

This study tested an intensive treatment approach for primary plasma cell leukemia, a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer with very poor survival rates. Forty patients under age 70 received strong chemotherapy followed by stem cell transplants, with some receiving two transplants. The goal was to see if this aggressive approach could better control the disease and extend survival compared to standard treatments.
