Seeing is believing: Color-Coded plaque gel may supercharge toothbrushing
NCT ID NCT07746128
First seen Aug 04, 2026 · Last updated Aug 05, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether a three-tone plaque-disclosing gel, which stains old and new plaque in different colors, can help people with gingivitis clean their teeth more effectively than standard brushing instructions alone. Sixty-four adults with gingivitis will be randomly assigned to receive either routine oral hygiene education or the same education plus visual feedback from the gel. Plaque levels will be measured before and three weeks after the session to see if the gel leads to better plaque control.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- three-tone plaque-disclosing gel (GC Tri Plaque ID Gel) used as an adjunct to oral hygiene instructions
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this simple, low-cost gel could become a routine part of dental visits, helping people with gingivitis brush better and reduce plaque more effectively.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, short-term trial (64 participants, 3 weeks), so long-term benefits are unknown. It measures plaque, not gum inflammation, so improved cleaning may not directly translate to healthier gums.
