Simple cord drainage may cut postpartum bleeding risk
NCT ID NCT07279545
First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 10, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study looks at whether opening the clamp on the umbilical cord after cutting it (called placental cord drainage) can shorten the time it takes for the placenta to come out and reduce blood loss after birth. About 80 low-risk pregnant women having a normal vaginal delivery will be split into two groups: one gets the cord drainage, the other does not. Researchers will measure bleeding amounts and check for complications to see if this simple step helps prevent postpartum hemorrhage.
