New MRI study seeks to uncover how obesity affects placental health

NCT ID NCT06314009

First seen Mar 20, 2026 · Last updated Jun 15, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study uses MRI scans to measure blood flow and oxygen levels in the placenta during pregnancy. Researchers want to see if these measurements differ between women who were obese before pregnancy and those who had a normal weight. The goal is to better understand how obesity may affect nutrient and oxygen delivery to the baby. About 30 pregnant women will each have two MRI scans, one in the second trimester and one in the third.
