Can a nasal spray block the power of positive thinking on heartbreak?
NCT ID NCT04650841
Summary
This study aims to understand how the brain's natural pain-relief system is involved in the 'placebo effect' for both emotional pain (like rejection) and physical pain. Researchers will recruit 60 healthy adults who have recently experienced an unwanted romantic breakup. Participants will receive either a saline spray or a spray containing naloxone (which blocks the brain's natural opioids) and undergo brain scans while viewing breakup-related images and experiencing mild heat pain, to see if the spray changes their pain and emotional responses.
