New PKU food shows promise in small trial
NCT ID NCT05487378
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This completed trial tested whether PKU GOLIKE, a special food for managing PKU, works better than standard amino acid protein substitutes at controlling blood phenylalanine levels. Sixteen children with PKU, aged 5 to 16, took part in a crossover study where they tried both products for 7 days each. Researchers measured blood phenylalanine and tyrosine levels, sleep quality, and diet to see if PKU GOLIKE offers smoother control.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
PKU GOLIKE (a food for special medicinal purposes for dietary management of PKU)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that PKU GOLIKE helps control blood phenylalanine levels more smoothly than standard protein substitutes.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 16 children, so results may not apply to everyone. It's a dietary supplement study, not a treatment, so it won't cure PKU.
