Could a heart stent fix dangerous artery bulges in the neck?
NCT ID NCT05436470
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This trial tests a stent originally made for heart arteries to treat pseudoaneurysms—bulges or tears—in the carotid or vertebral arteries of the neck. The stent is placed inside the artery to seal the bulge and restore normal blood flow. The study includes people with certain types of aneurysms or fistulas in these arteries, but excludes children, pregnant women, and others in vulnerable groups.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
PK Papyrus Coronary Stent Graft System
What this could lead to
If it works, this stent could offer a less invasive way to seal dangerous bulges in neck arteries, potentially avoiding open surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early study using a device originally designed for heart arteries, so its safety and effectiveness in neck arteries are not yet proven. Risks include blood clots, stent movement, or vessel damage.
