Pig liver machine tested as lifeline for patients in liver failure

NCT ID NCT07429838

Summary

This is a first-in-human safety study testing a new device that temporarily supports failing livers. The device connects a patient's blood to a genetically engineered pig liver, aiming to filter toxins and perform liver functions. The trial will enroll up to 20 adults with severe, sudden liver failure who are not currently eligible for a transplant, to see if the approach is safe and can help stabilize them.
