Can a simple picture stop doctors from mixing up babies?

NCT ID NCT03960099

Summary

This study is testing if showing a unique picture symbol next to a newborn's name in the hospital computer system helps prevent doctors and nurses from accidentally ordering tests or treatments for the wrong baby. It involves parents choosing a symbol (like a rainbow or lion) for their baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Doctors are randomly assigned to either see these symbols or not, to see if they make fewer ordering mistakes.
