First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 3 trial tests whether a herbal extract called Picroliv can help people with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). 170 adults with mild to moderate NAFLD will take either Picroliv or a placebo twice daily for 24 weeks, alongside standard lifestyle advice. The main goal is to see if Picroliv reduces liver fat measured by MRI.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Picroliv (a standardized extract from the plant Picrorhiza kurroa)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could provide a new treatment option for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, potentially reducing liver fat and improving liver health.
- What could go wrong
- This is a mid-stage trial with only 170 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The herbal extract may not prove more effective than placebo, and long-term safety is not yet established.
