Simple drug infusion may stop shivering during C-Sections

NCT ID NCT07663149

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This trial tests whether giving a continuous infusion of phenylephrine (a drug that raises blood pressure) can prevent shivering after spinal anesthesia in women having a C-section. About 108 non-laboring women will be randomly assigned to receive either the phenylephrine infusion or no infusion. The main goal is to see if fewer women shiver during the surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Phenylephrine
What this could lead to
If effective, this could offer a simple way to reduce shivering during C-sections, improving patient comfort and safety.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with 108 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. Phenylephrine can also cause side effects like high blood pressure.
