New scan could help rectal cancer patients avoid surgery

NCT ID NCT06608537

Summary

This study tested whether a new type of PET scan (using a tracer called 18F-FAPI) can accurately predict which patients with rectal cancer will have a complete response to their pre-surgery treatment. The goal is to better identify patients who might be able to avoid major surgery and preserve their rectum, improving their quality of life. The study involved 52 adults with locally advanced rectal cancer who had not yet received treatment.
