New scan aims to pinpoint why joint replacements hurt
NCT ID NCT00194285
Summary
This study is testing a special type of PET scan to see if it can accurately tell whether pain after a joint replacement is caused by an infection or by the implant simply being loose. Researchers will scan about 530 patients with painful artificial joints and compare the scan results to other tests and to what surgeons find during surgery. The goal is to create a better, clearer way to diagnose the cause of the pain so doctors can choose the right treatment.
