Custom air pressure for lungs could save lives in ICU

NCT ID NCT04012073

Summary

This study tested whether customizing the air pressure in a ventilator, based on detailed measurements of a patient's lung volume, could lead to better recovery for people with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). It compared this personalized approach to a standard method in a small group of critically ill patients. The goal was to see if the tailored settings could improve survival, reduce time on the ventilator, and lower harmful inflammation.
