Blood test could spare some vasculitis patients from unnecessary medications

NCT ID NCT03906227

Summary

This study tested whether measuring specific immune cells (CD5+ B cells) in the blood could help doctors decide which ANCA vasculitis patients need ongoing maintenance medication to prevent disease flare-ups. Patients whose blood cells returned to normal levels after initial treatment were randomly assigned to either continue standard maintenance therapy or be closely monitored without extra medication. The goal was to personalize treatment to reduce medication exposure while still controlling the autoimmune disease.
