Custom sound therapy shows promise for ringing ears
NCT ID NCT07637708
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This completed trial tested a personalized sound therapy for adults with chronic tinnitus, a condition where people hear ringing or buzzing without an external source. 25 participants received either music embedded with tones matched to their tinnitus frequency or low-frequency sounds. The goal was to see if the personalized therapy could reduce tinnitus severity more effectively than the comparison treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
personalized music-embedded sound therapy
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new, non-invasive way to reduce the severity of chronic tinnitus and improve quality of life.
What could go wrong
This was a small, early-stage trial with only 25 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The therapy may not work for all types of tinnitus.
