Simple questionnaire could bring palliative care home for lung disease patients

NCT ID NCT06714188

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested a simple questionnaire to help match newly diagnosed idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) patients to the right level of palliative care. Researchers asked 30 patients a few questions to see if the tool could predict their needs as accurately as a doctor's judgment. The goal is to make palliative care more personalized and accessible, potentially allowing some patients to receive care at home.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this tool could help doctors quickly identify each IPF patient's palliative care needs, allowing some to receive care at home instead of in the hospital.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early study with only 30 participants. The questionnaire may not match expert judgment well, and results may not apply to all IPF patients.
