Tailored HIV treatment aims for fewer side effects

NCT ID NCT03385473

Summary

This study tested if adjusting the dose of two common HIV drugs (efavirenz or atazanavir) based on a patient's genetics and drug levels in their blood could work as well as standard fixed doses, but with fewer side effects and better cost-effectiveness. It involved 190 adults in Argentina who were starting HIV treatment for the first time. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either the standard fixed dose or a personalized dose based on their test results.
