Could measuring nerve size improve anesthesia for arm surgery?

NCT ID NCT07353047

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a new way to give numbing medicine for arm surgery. Instead of using a standard dose based on weight or doctor's judgment, the dose is calculated from an ultrasound measurement of the nerve's size. The goal is to see if this personalized method works just as well as standard methods, while possibly using less medicine and reducing side effects. The trial will involve 300 adults having elective upper limb surgery.
