Blood test may predict bone disease severity
NCT ID NCT02868645
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a protein called periostin is higher in the blood of people with fibrous dysplasia, a rare bone disease that can cause pain and fractures. Researchers will take blood samples from 65 patients and compare periostin levels to how many bones are affected and how severe the disease is. The goal is to see if a simple blood test could help doctors understand the disease better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a simple blood test to gauge how severe a patient's fibrous dysplasia is.
What could go wrong
This is a small, observational study with only 65 participants. It does not test any treatment, so it may not lead to any direct benefit for patients.
