NCT ID NCT06280274

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This pilot study looked at whether giving the diabetes drug metformin around the time of hip or knee replacement surgery is feasible and helps control blood sugar. Forty adults, with or without diabetes, were randomly assigned to receive metformin or a placebo. The main goal was to see if a larger study could be done, focusing on recruitment, drug adherence, and patient follow-up. Results will guide future research on managing blood sugar after joint replacement.
