Scientists to create first cell atlas of gum healing around implants

NCT ID NCT07279090

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will create a detailed map of how gum tissue heals around dental implants. Researchers will place a tiny healing cap on the implant and collect small gum samples at 4 days, 2 weeks, and 8-10 weeks after placement. Using advanced genetic analysis, they will track which cells are active and how they interact during healing. The goal is to understand the healing process better and find ways to prevent implant infections.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Healing abutment (micro device placed on dental implant)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could identify key factors that improve gum healing around dental implants and help prevent implant infections.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early-stage observational study (5 participants) focused on understanding biology, not testing a treatment. Results may not lead to direct clinical benefits.
