Scientists to scan brains moments after death in groundbreaking study
NCT ID NCT07477028
First seen Mar 18, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study will use special brain-monitoring headsets and artificial intelligence to see if there is any organized brain activity in the moments after a person's heart stops but before brain death is declared. Researchers will observe 20 adults with terminal illnesses who have do-not-resuscitate orders. The goal is to collect and store this brain data, not to treat or change the dying process.
