New study aims to unlock secrets of skin flap survival
NCT ID NCT07084740
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study uses special cameras and probes to measure blood flow and oxygen levels in skin flaps during reconstructive surgery. Researchers will study 20 adults having surgery to repair wounds from pressure sores or limb injuries. The goal is to better understand how blood supply works in these flaps, which could help surgeons improve success rates in the future.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help surgeons better predict which skin flaps will survive after reconstructive surgery, potentially reducing complications.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early observational study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to all patients or surgeries. It measures blood flow but does not test a treatment.
