Vibrating massage guns may give young cyclists an edge
NCT ID NCT07206576
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a single session of percussion massage therapy (using a handheld massage gun) could improve balance, explosive power, and cycling performance in 32 adolescent competitive cyclists aged 12-15. Half received the massage on major leg muscles, while the other half rested. Researchers measured balance, jump distance, sprint cycling, and muscle strength right after. The goal is to see if this quick treatment offers any short-term boost for young athletes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
percussion massage gun (Compex Fixx 2.0)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could suggest a simple way for young cyclists to boost balance and explosive power before training or races.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-session study in healthy teens, so results may not apply to other athletes or longer-term use. The effects might be minimal or no better than rest.
