Can a simple pill combo soften radiation scars? new trial explores.
NCT ID NCT03723291
First seen Mar 10, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether two common drugs (pentoxifylline and vitamin E) can help reduce fibrosis—hardening of tissues—that often occurs after radiation for head and neck cancer. Fifty adults who had radiation at least a year ago and were cancer-free took either the drug combo plus rehab exercises or just exercises alone for 6 months. The main goal was to see if a larger trial is possible, not to prove the drugs work.
