VA launches major trial to see if common drug can save kidneys

Summary
This large study is testing whether a drug called pentoxifylline, already used for other conditions, can help protect the kidneys of veterans with type 2 diabetes. The goal is to see if adding this drug to standard care can slow the progression to kidney failure (requiring dialysis or transplant) and delay death. The trial involves over 2,300 participants across 40 VA hospitals.
