New drug cocktail targets Hard-to-Treat cancers

NCT ID NCT06302621

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This early-phase trial is testing whether combining two targeted drugs, pemigatinib and afatinib, is safe and can shrink tumors in people with advanced solid cancers that have specific FGTR gene changes. The study includes up to 70 participants whose cancers have spread or cannot be removed and have not responded to standard treatments. Researchers will first find the highest tolerable doses, then check how well the combination works in a specific type of bile duct cancer.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Pemigatinib and Afatinib (oral drugs)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a new treatment option for people with advanced solid tumors that have specific genetic changes and have stopped responding to other therapies.

What could go wrong

This is a very early phase 1 trial with only 70 participants, so the combination may prove too toxic or ineffective. It is not yet known if it will help most patients.
