Could a magnetic leg cuff heal your achilles pain?
NCT ID NCT06969859
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy can reduce pain and improve function in people with mid-portion Achilles tendinopathy. Two hundred adults with confirmed Achilles tendon thickening and pain will receive either active PEMF or a sham device, plus standard rehab exercises. Researchers will track symptoms and tendon health for up to a year.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF) delivered via a BIXEPS device
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a non-invasive, drug-free option to reduce pain and improve function in people with chronic Achilles tendon pain.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small, early-stage trial with 200 participants, and the treatment may prove no better than sham therapy. The device is not yet widely available.
