Pilates vs. pelvic floor exercises: which helps bladder leaks more?
NCT ID NCT07212478
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two exercise approaches—pelvic floor muscle training and Pilates—to see which better reduces urinary incontinence in postmenopausal women. Twenty-four women with stress incontinence will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups for three months. Researchers will measure leakage episodes, quality of life, and pelvic floor strength before and after the program.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Pelvic floor muscle training and Pilates exercises
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that Pilates is as effective as standard pelvic floor training for managing urinary incontinence in postmenopausal women.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase study with only 24 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The interventions are exercise-based, so benefits may vary and are not guaranteed.
