New imaging technique reveals differences in pelvic floor muscles of women with nerve pain

NCT ID NCT07458737

First seen Mar 10, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study used a special ultrasound technique called shear-wave elastography to measure the stiffness of pelvic floor muscles in 94 women—half with pudendal neuralgia (a type of chronic pelvic nerve pain) and half healthy. The goal was to see if muscle stiffness differs between the two groups. Results may help doctors better understand and diagnose this painful condition.
