Peer power: new study tests buddy system to beat opioid addiction

Summary

This study tests whether a trained peer recovery specialist can help people in rural areas stay on their opioid medication and reduce use of other drugs. About 160 adults receiving telemedicine treatment for opioid use disorder will either get this extra peer support or standard care. The goal is to see if the peer-led program improves treatment retention and reduces overall drug use over six months.
