Doctors test ventilator trick to avoid unnecessary IV fluids

NCT ID NCT04023786

Summary

This study tested a simple method to predict if giving IV fluids would help critically ill patients on breathing machines. Researchers temporarily adjusted a ventilator setting (called PEEP) to see if it could mimic the effect of fluids on the heart. The goal was to find a quick test to avoid giving unnecessary fluids, which can sometimes cause harm.
