Light therapy could replace surgery for precancerous cervical lesions

NCT ID NCT07306260

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study compares a light-based treatment called photodynamic therapy (PDT) to a common surgical procedure (LEEP) for women with high-grade cervical lesions (HSIL/CIN2) caused by HPV. The goal is to see if PDT is as effective as surgery at clearing these abnormal cells, while potentially being less invasive. About 560 women aged 25-60 will take part, and their progress will be tracked for up to 2 years.
