First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 27 times
Summary
This study tested three different computer tools to help doctors check a state database before prescribing strong painkillers or sedatives. The goal was to reduce the risk of medication abuse and overdose. Over 3,600 patients and their doctors took part. The tools gave doctors extra information about a patient's risk factors but did not force them to change their prescribing.
