Can a Pop-Up alert stop risky painkiller prescriptions?
NCT ID NCT04918355
Summary
This study tested three different computer alert tools designed to help doctors quickly check a patient's prescription history before writing orders for opioids or sedatives. The tools popped up during patient visits to flag potential overdose risks, aiming to see if they made doctors more likely to review the state prescription database. Researchers tracked how often doctors used the database and whether prescription patterns changed for over 3,600 healthcare providers.
