Could a light patch replace painkillers after surgery?
NCT ID NCT07671612
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a special light-emitting patch can reduce pain after urological surgery. 300 adults having kidney or adrenal gland surgery will receive either an active patch, an enhanced version, or a placebo patch. The main goal is to see if the patch lowers pain scores and the need for pain medication in the first 24 hours after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
photobiomodulation (PBM) patch
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a drug-free way to manage pain after surgery, reducing the need for opioids.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study with no phase assigned, and the effect may be small or no better than a placebo. The patch is only for short-term use after surgery.
