Scientists hunt for the genetic roots of a mysterious liver disease

NCT ID NCT01161953

Summary

This study aimed to discover if certain inherited genes make people more likely to develop Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (PBC), a progressive liver disease. Researchers enrolled 1,500 people, including those with PBC and their close family members, to collect genetic information. The goal was to better understand the disease's origins to help guide future prevention, diagnosis, and treatment strategies.
