Scientists test ultrasound to open brain barrier in Parkinson's dementia

NCT ID NCT03608553

Summary

This study tested whether a special type of focused ultrasound could safely and temporarily open the blood-brain barrier in people with mild to moderate Parkinson's disease dementia. The blood-brain barrier protects the brain but can also block helpful treatments. Researchers wanted to see if they could open this barrier and then close it again without causing harm, which could pave the way for future therapies. The study involved 20 participants and focused on safety and whether the procedure was possible.
