Could a Parent's nose germs protect their baby from infection?

NCT ID NCT05695196

Summary

This small pilot study is testing whether transferring healthy nose bacteria from a parent to their newborn in the NICU is safe and feasible. The goal is to see if this 'microbiome transplant' can help the baby's nose resist colonization by Staphylococcus aureus, a bacteria that can cause serious infections. The study is an early step to gather information for a larger future trial.
