Parents' nose bacteria could protect babies from dangerous infections

NCT ID NCT06283355

Summary

This study is testing whether transferring healthy bacteria from a parent's nose to their newborn's nose can help prevent dangerous staph infections. Researchers will enroll 175 premature babies in the NICU and their parents to compare single versus repeated transfers. The goal is to see if this 'microbiome transplant' increases the diversity of good bacteria in babies' noses, which may protect them from harmful germs.
