New study tests which pressure method gives best view for breathing tube insertion

NCT ID NCT07004998

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will compare two methods of applying pressure to the neck during a breathing tube insertion procedure in 50 adults having elective surgery. Researchers want to see if pressing on the left side of the windpipe gives a better view of the vocal cords than pressing on the cricoid cartilage or using no pressure at all. The goal is to find which technique helps doctors place the tube more easily and safely.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a better way to position the airway tube during anesthesia, potentially improving success rates and reducing complications.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It tests a procedure, not a new drug or cure, so the impact is limited.
