New imaging method could revolutionize parathyroid surgery

NCT ID NCT07444723

First seen Mar 23, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tests whether new PET scans using a radioactive tracer called 18F-FCH can more accurately locate overactive parathyroid glands or tumors than current methods. About 193 adults scheduled for parathyroid surgery will receive both a standard 4D-CT scan and the new PET scans. The goal is to see if the new imaging helps surgeons find and remove the right gland, potentially improving cure rates and reducing complications.
