Heart attack patients may soon skip aspirin: new trial tests safer drug combo

NCT ID NCT07257198

First seen Dec 08, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tests whether using only ticagrelor (a blood thinner) after a heart attack can reduce bleeding risks compared to the standard combination of aspirin and ticagrelor. About 2,570 adults who had a heart attack but did not receive stents or bypass surgery will be followed for 12 months. The goal is to see if the single-drug approach is safer without increasing the chance of another heart attack, stroke, or death.
