Can a weekly infusion stop debilitating pain attacks?

NCT ID NCT02922413

Summary

This study aimed to find out if a medication called Panhematin could safely prevent the sudden, severe pain attacks experienced by people with acute porphyria. It involved a small group of adults who had a history of frequent attacks and were already receiving preventive treatment. Participants received either the real medication or a placebo (inactive substance) in a blinded fashion to see if it reduced the number of attacks over several weeks of follow-up.
